Overview of the chapter:
The main points: We are not just cyborgs - ie tool using animals, but psyborgs, animals who are transformed via the abstractions we create. The conserved writings. Milestones are the religious traditions - the god nets - and Shakespeare and then the printing press media etc. with a major shift with the Net.
The "intimacy" bit is that writing has though hyperlinks and so on bought us more into one big knot of relationships - markets are conversations - not just the "social life of information" but the psuchological life of information.
At the extreme we can look at it the other way around - hypersea - the net is teleogical - god - becoming conscious.

Psyborg
From the beginning tools are implanted in our being. The time tool
comes as feed times, and sleep times. Words come and the language tool
floods in. The alphabet tool and the number tool. We are immersed social
fabric tool, the school tool and church tool.
Not a tool making animal, a tool made animal, tools that shape our psyche.
